Public Policy Dialogue on Human Settlement Development Policy Concludes

On 30 March 2023, Policy Research Institute and the Ministry of Urban Development co-hosted a public policy dialogue with the view to collecting suggestions and input from various stakeholders – researchers, government officials, academics, experts and private housing enterprises – on what should be the primary focus of the human settlement development policy that the Ministry of Urban Development is drafting. Dr Kalpana Khanal, PRI’s Senior Research Fellow at the Policy Centre for Economic and Infrastructure Development facilitated the dialogue. Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Urban Development Mr. Pradip Pariyar explained the need for and importance of the human settlement development policy and set the stage for the discussion. Among the speakers in the dialogue were Prof. Dr. Surya Raj Acharya, Senior Thematic Expert (Honorary Senior Advisor) of Policy Research Institute, Ms. Meera Chaudhary, DIG of Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police, Dr. Amod Mani Dixit, Chair of National Society for Earthquake Technology (NSET). All the speakers concurred that the human settlement policy is a long-awaited instrument and should be drafted as soon as possible addressing all the issues explored and discussed in the dialogue.
