Policy Dialogue Concludes on “National Senior Citizens Policy, 2080 (Draft)

The policy dialogue was held to collect feedback from experts and concerned stakeholders on the draft of the “National Senior Citizens Policy, 2080” initiated by the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens. The feedback would feed into the finalisation of the draft policy.
Participating in the dialogue, over 30 experts, researchers, analysts and concerned stakeholders offered a number of suggestions to enrich the draft. Among the suggestions were to expand contextual background by adding to it the data on senior citizens and critical review of earlier policies and practices to identify what was helpful and what was not; to categorically provide for senior citizen-friendly health care, transport and transit and other service delivery systems; to establish social-interaction centres – such as yoga and meditation centres – specifically aimed at senior citizens; and to put in place a monitoring mechanism in all levels of government to regularly monitor the quality of service provision and take immediate action if anything is found wanting.
