A policy dialogue co-organized by National Planning Commission and Policy Research Institute on the issue of land fragmentation and fallow land

National Planning Commission has formed a study committee headed by Hon. Member Dr. Jay Kant Raut to suggest ways to solve the growing problem of land fragmentation and fallow land in Nepal. In order to support the study, a policy dialogue program – jointly organized by the Institute and the National Planning Commission – was organized at the Policy Research Institute, with the participation of experts.

In the program, the member of the study committee, Bhojraj Sapkota (Joint Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development) gave a presentation with the summary of the study and the major questions for the feedback, and the participants gave their suggestions verbally as well as in writing. The participants of the program were welcomed by the Office Manager of the institute, Mr. Laxman Bhattarai, and the discussion was moderated by the head of the Information & Knowledge Management Department of the institute, Dr. Deepak Kumar Khadka. At the end of the program, Dr. Jay Kant Raut gave the closing remarks by talking about the importance and usefulness of the suggestions received and the Head of the Research Department of the institute, Dr. Hari Sharma Neupane thanked the participants.

The participants in the program gave suggestions regarding the relevant policy, law, institutional structure, plans and programs and their implementation methods to be taken by the state to solve the rapidly increasing land fragmentation and fallow land problems.

The Policy Research Institute will collect the suggestions of the participating experts and additional experts as well and submit them to the study committee.
